Sarawak’s Gawai Dayak 2025 celebration to include bazaar, carnival, parade, dinner

KUCHING, May 13: This year’s Gawai Dayak Bazaar, which is part of the State-level Gawai Dayak 2025 celebration, will be held from May 15 to 25 at the Batu Kawa New Township here.

According to a media release, this followed the conclusion of the working committee meeting held today to discuss preparations for the event, which Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is expected to officiate.

The bazaar will have 180 stalls, of which 50 will sell handicrafts and the rest will focus on food and beverages.

This year’s State-level Gawai Dayak celebration will be hosted by the Orang Ulu community, which will also showcase their unique culture and traditions,” said the media release.

Other programmes lined up include a carnival from June 12-13 at the Federation of Orang Ulu Building in Miri; a parade on June 21 at Kuching Waterfront with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari as the guest of honour; and a dinner on June 22 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) which Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is expected to attend.

“In addition, a coffee table book is also expected to be launched, showcasing the many cultures of the Dayak community.

“It is hoped that this year’s State-level Gawai Dayak celebration could strengthen unity among the different races and introduce Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage to locals and visitors.” — DayakDaily
