Sarawak’s first state-owned international school to be ready by 2023

KUCHING, Sept 18: Sarawak’s first state-owned international school—Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School located in Kuching will have its groundbreaking ceremony on Sept 22, 2020 and is expected to be operational by 2023.

Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research (MESTR) said the first out of the five international secondary schools will be located at 12th Mile, Jalan Kuching-Serian.

“Sarawak has planned to set up five state-owned international secondary schools, where four other schools will be located in Sibu, Miri, Bintulu and a yet to be finalised second site in Kuching,” it added in a statement today.

Its minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong stated that the schools will be identifying high potential students and provide them with the opportunity to realise their full potential by giving access to international standard education.

In stating this, he noted the first intake would comprise 100 Form One students who will be receiving their education based on the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Cambridge syllabus in the schools.

He also pointed out the various infrastructures and facilities to be provided to the international students who are successfully enrolled.

“The schools will also have hostels, science and tinkering labs, sports and other supporting facilities,” he said. —DayakDaily
