SERIAN, Jan 12: Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn has expressed full support for the revival of the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3) examinations.
He said both examinations should be reinstated as part of efforts to strengthen student assessment.
“If you ask me what I think of the UPSR and PT3 examinations, I hope they will come back.
“That is also why we have our Ujian Penilaian Dual Language Programme (UP-DLP),” Sagah told reporters during a visit to SMK Tun Abdul Razak in Siburan today.
Sarawak conducted its first UP-DLP examinations last year, involving Year Six pupils.
UPSR and PT3 were abolished in 2021 and 2022 respectively, and replaced with school-based assessments.
Earlier today, Minister of Education Fadhlina Sidek was reported as saying that the ministry is consulting the National Education Advisory Council (MPPK) before finalising its recommendations on the revival of the UPSR and PT3 examinations.
On SMK Tun Abdul Razak, Sagah said the school has about 1,500 students, adding that new hostels and academic laboratories have been built to improve learning facilities.
He expressed hope that teachers would guide students towards clear and proper pathways for further studies and career development.
Sagah also reminded students to consider pursuing engineering and technical fields.
“The various incentives and programmes undertaken by the Sarawak government should encourage you to excel in your education,” he stressed. — DayakDaily
