KUCHING, Oct 3: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg says the State’s earnings from commodity exports, including palm oil and electronics, have been slightly affected by trade policies imposed by United States President Donald Trump.
“Trump’s trade policies have definitely affected our commodities that we export, including palm oil and electronics,” he said in a doorstep interview after officiating the opening of Sekolah Rendah Agama Datuk Haji Mohamad Mortadza Haji Daud on FAC Access Road today.
Earlier in his speech, Abang Johari highlighted ongoing reforms in Sarawak’s fiscal management, including stronger oversight of statutory bodies and government-linked companies, with support from World Bank experts.
“Alhamdulillah, our State’s financial management has been successful, and our revenue has increased so far.
“We hope it will grow further this year, but it seems that, due to President Trump, the prices of some of the commodities we export have been slightly affected,” he disclosed.
Despite the minor impact on export earnings, the Premier remained optimistic that Sarawak would continue funding key projects, including the RM55.2 million allocation for upgrading Sekolah Rendah Agama Datuk Haji Mohamad Mortadza Haji Daud. — DayakDaily
