Sarawak’s 65th State-level Quran Recitation and Memorisation set for Feb 4–7 in Serian

KUCHING, Jan 22: The 65th Sarawak State-level Tilawah and Hafazan Al-Quran will be held from Feb 4 to 7, 2026, at the Serian Conference Centre (SCC), with the event set to draw top Quran reciters and memorisers from across the state.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, said the opening night on Feb 4 will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, while the closing and prize-giving ceremony on Feb 7 will be graced by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said the event aims to further nurture love for the Al-Quran among Muslims, emphasising its comprehensive teachings that encompass all aspects of life, while also producing more capable qari, qariah, hafiz and hafizah in Sarawak through healthy competition.

“This programme is also part of our continuous efforts to strengthen faith and piety, while reinforcing Islamic values, good character, and exemplary worship practices,” he told a press conference at the Serian Resident’s Office yesterday (Jan 21), according to a press release.

Themed “Ummah Maju Makmur”, the programme marks the 65th edition of the state-level Tilawah Al-Quran, with a total of 43 participants competing this year, comprising qari, qariah, male hafazan participants and female hafazan participants.

In addition to the main event, several accompanying programmes have been scheduled, including a Judges’ Workshop from Jan 12 to 15, a Tahsin Qiraat Al-Quran course on Jan 27, a Perdana Islamic Affairs Forum on Feb 1, a participant strengthening course from Feb 2 to 3, and a Seminar Saudara Kita on Feb 7.

Other parallel activities include an Al-Quran quiz and exhibition from Feb 4 to 7, as well as Bicara Ramadan and Al-Quran sessions on Feb 13 and 14.

The press conference was also attended by president of the Sarawak Islamic Council Datuk Misnu Taha, Sarawak Islamic Department director Mual Suaud, Serian resident Caroline Cleophas Joseph, and heads of relevant departments.

A final coordination meeting and presentation of the organising committee’s working report was held immediately after the press conference. — DayakDaily
