KUCHING, Nov 28: SarawakPass, the State’s digital identity platform, will soon be integrated with Malaysia’s MyDigital ID, enabling users to access both Sarawak and federal government services seamlessly.
The agreement was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Sarawak government and the Malaysian government via the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Complex here today.
The MOU was signed by Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and NACSA Chief Executive Dr Megat Zuhairy Megat Tahuddin, with Sarawak Civil Service Digitalisation Unit (SCSDU) director Datu Grace Huong Siew Hung and MyDigital ID chief executive officer Nik Hisham Nik Ibrahim also signing as additional signatories.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg witnessed the ceremony.
Among those present were Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi and Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication I (Telecommunication) Datuk Liwan Lagang.
Speaking to reporters afterwards, Julaihi said the MOU marks a significant step in strengthening a secure, trusted and integrated national digital identity ecosystem.
“This collaboration is a strategic partnership to link Sarawak’s State-level digital identity platform, SarawakPass, with Malaysia’s national digital ID ecosystem,” he said.
SarawakPass, introduced in 2025 as an upgraded version of SarawakID, currently has over 1.8 million registered users. It serves as a single sign-on platform providing faster, more integrated digital services accessible anytime and anywhere.
Meanwhile, MyDigital ID, Malaysia’s national digital identity platform officially launched in 2023, has close to six million users.
Through the integration, SarawakPass users will be able to access federal government services that require MyDigital ID authentication, while MyDigital ID users can access services enabled by SarawakPass. This interoperability ensures a consistent, secure and user-friendly digital experience across both State and federal platforms.
Under the MOU, the Public Service Digitalisation Unit (SCSDU) will oversee SarawakPass policies, with Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS) handling development and operations, while the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) ensures regulatory compliance. NACSA and MyDigital ID Sdn Bhd (MyDIDSB) will play similar roles at the federal level.
The integrated solution, featuring secure APIs, cross-platform login, single sign-on (SSO) and aligned cybersecurity measures, is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2026. – DayakDaily
