KUCHING, Jan 12: Sarawakians must remain united and rally behind Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s quest to fight for the state’s rights.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said by having a society that is united in protecting the state, the people will be able to achieve what they aspire and enjoy Sarawak’s prosperity even more.

He believed that every Sarawakians must band together to support the state government’s effort to bring more wealth to the people.

“The spirit of unity is very important. We are talking about Sarawak in the next 10 years. It is a critical time.

“If we are united (and support the state government), no one can stop the progress of Sarawak. Our state government has tried to generate more income through revenue engineering.

“Over time, our revenue will grow and as long as we are united, with the money we can do a lot of things. Sarawakians need to remain united so that we can share the prosperity,” he said when launching SUPP Stakan office here today.

He added that after the May 2018 general election, the state government has to look for more funds to develop the state, as it cannot rely on the budget from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government.

Dr Sim opined that the federal government had also tried several tactics to divide the people such as the Federal Village Community Management Council (MPKKP) initiative.

He urged SUPP members to work hard and smart to enhance unity and protect the state’s rights, especially in the era of technology.

Echoing Dr Sim’s view, SUPP Stakan chairman Sim Kiang Chiok believed that social media could become the battlefield to gain more support and votes.

“I wish to appeal to all our friends here to take a proactive move, we should all follow the chief minister’s fan page on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, including the fan page of all leaders in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“Step two, please, all of us must unite and compulsorily ‘like’ and ‘share’ all our party president (social media) postings daily.

“There are 240 of us here today and I hope we can have an increase of 240 followers, likes and shares starting tomorrow. When you all go back, get just five more people to do the same and we would be bumping up the support for our leaders by 1,000 likes and shares,” he suggested.

Kiang Chiok believed that by duplicating the post, in no time, party members and supporters will be producing 5,000 likes and shares, making all their messages viral and strengthening the chances of winning in the upcoming state election.

He described Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg as bold and a steadfast leader, who is able to use his wisdom to make wise decisions.

He pointed out that SUPP will always fight for Sarawak’s rights. Fighting for Sarawakian’s rights with the federal government is a mission and it will always be continued, as it is a journey.
