KUCHING, March 31: Sarawakian cardiologist Dr Alan Fong has done the region proud by being elected as the chair of the American College of Cardiology.

According to Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, the appointment was an honour for Sarawak’s medical faculty because it was a decision made by more than 50,000 professionals from all over the world.

“Recently, Dr Alan Fong, a cardiologist at the Pusat Jantung Sarawak (Sarawak Heart Centre) and the chief of the Sarawak Clinical Research Centre of the Sarawak General Hospital has been elected to chair the American College of Cardiology which has a membership of more than 50,000 worldwide.

“I am so proud that he has been selected by professional peers to take the position of chairman for one year,” said Dr Sim on his social media page today.

He said Dr Fong’s achievement is a continuation of what the former had initiated back in 2019, where Malaysia was elected the first International Chapter of the American College of Cardiology after the leadership visited the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kuching and was amazed by its high standards and accomplishments. — DayakDaily
