KUCHING, Sept 27: Sarawak’s young dancers from Tyng Dance Academy (TDA) have done the State and country proud by winning one gold and one silver medal at the prestigious Pacific Open DanceSport Championship 2025 held in Taiwan on Sept 20 and 21.
Despite being among the youngest competitors, Jovanna Goh Yi Xian clinched the gold medal while Ariella Tang Chen Xin secured silver in the Chinese Taipei DanceSport Federation (CTDSF) Juvenile Grade C (Age 11 & below) category.
Jovanna also placed fourth in the Juvenile I Solo Grade A and ninth in the WDSF Open Female Solo Juvenile, while Ariella came in tenth in the Juvenile I Solo Grade A.
TDA founder Chan Tyng Tyng praised the duo for their discipline and maturity, especially as the competition coincided with Typhoon Ragasa, forcing the team to evacuate early to Taipei for safety.
“Our students showed not only skill but also courage and maturity. They carry Sarawak’s name with pride—both in victory and in responsibility,” she said in a statement today.
This latest achievement adds to TDA’s growing list of international accolades, coming just weeks after the academy bagged 23 medals at the Asia Open Dance Championship in Kuala Lumpur.
With two major international triumphs in September alone, TDA is now preparing for high-profile events in Sarawak next month, including the ASEAN DanceSport Camp (Oct 1–2), the Borneo Open International DanceSport Championship (BOIDC 2025) from Oct 3–5, the ASEAN Elite Masterclass (Oct 6–7) and the Dance for Love Charity Concert (Oct 7).
“This October will be Sarawak’s proudest moment yet, when our homegrown champions meet the world right here in Kuching,” Chan added.
TDA, which is internationally accredited under ISTD (UK) and ComDance (Australia), is also a member of the Malaysia DanceSport Federation (MYDF). It is the organiser of BOIDC and Dance for Love, two of East Malaysia’s most significant cultural events. — DayakDaily
