KUCHING, Aug 31: Sarawak’s public transport, airline, and sports infrastructure will be fully prepared by 2027 to host the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, according to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abang Johari expressed confidence that by 2027, Sarawak’s own airline will be operational, facilitating travel to and from the region.

“I also believe that by 2027, the public transport system in Kuching, specifically the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART), will be fully operational, making it easier to move around the city,” he said during the Sarawak Level National Day celebration in Sibu, which was streamed live via the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) Facebook page today.

He also assured that Sarawak’s sports facilities would be upgraded to meet international standards, ensuring that the state is well-prepared to host the SEA Games.

In addition to infrastructure readiness, Abang Johari mentioned that Sarawak has committed RM350 million towards organising some of the events in the region, out of an estimated total cost of RM700 million for the entire event.

“God willing, Sarawak will be a host that is more than ready to welcome the SEA Games in 2027,” he added. — DayakDaily
