KUCHING, Jan 8: Recipients of welfare aid under Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) will receive the Sarawak Basic Needs Contribution (SKAS) directly into their bank accounts.

In a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah informed that this decision was approved during a meeting chaired by Economic Planning Unit (EPU) director Datu Lester Matthew.

“All eligible recipients registered under JKMS will receive their assistance in cash through their bank accounts.

“These recipients are those already receiving monthly assistance from JKMS, such as single mother aid, senior citizen aid, underprivileged assistance, persons with disabilities, and bedridden patient support.

“Since they already have bank accounts, there is no need to open new ones. Our role is simply to assist with registration to verify eligibility,” she told reporters after visiting Kenyalang Gold Card strategic partner, Jasmin Jawahar Sdn Bhd, earlier today.

Fatimah also explained that the Sarawak Civil Service Digitalisation Unit (SCSDU) and Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS) would assist in assessing eligibility, grouping recipients into three categories: households, single individuals, and senior citizens without a spouse or children.

“SCSDU and SAINS will classify recipients into these categories, and the assistance will be funneled to JKM Sarawak for distribution to eligible clients,” she added. — DayakDaily
