KUCHING, Feb 3: Sarawak welcomed a record 64,295 visitors from Singapore in 2025, generating an estimated RM225 million in tourism receipts.
In a media release today, Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) said that the figure represents a 5.8 per cent increase from 59,793 visitors in 2024.
Based on an average expenditure of RM3,500 per visitor, Singaporean travellers contributed approximately RM225 million to Sarawak’s economy, up RM15.7 million year-on-year.
The growth directly benefited the hospitality, retail, and transportation sectors, with Singapore remaining one of Sarawak’s top high-value tourism markets due to the strong spending power of its visitors.
The figures exclude expatriates residing in Singapore, suggesting the actual economic contribution is likely higher.
Educational tourism also saw significant growth, with international and public school groups from Singapore generating over RM2 million in revenue through study trips to Sarawak, surpassing initial targets.
STATOS attributed the growth to sustained promotional campaigns, targeted trade engagement, and closer bilateral cooperation.
In addition, the planned opening of the Consulate of Singapore in Sarawak is expected to further facilitate travel and strengthen tourism and economic ties.
STATOS chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani said the figures underscore Sarawak’s appeal to Singaporean travellers seeking cultural, nature-based, and educational experiences.
Moving forward, the office will focus on tourism promotion, trade engagement, and niche market development in the Singapore market. — DayakDaily
