KUCHING, Dec 1: Sarawak want federal funding for education to continue after return of autonomy.

Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Sarawak Datuk Roland Sagah said the one of the things which Sarawak has always asked for is autonomy in education.

“It’s not just the autonomy, not just making the policy and executing it, we also want the financial allocation for our education,” he told reporters after officiating at the World Engineering, Science and Technology Congress (ESTCON) 2022 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

Meanwhile, when asked if he has any preference on who should be appointed as the new federal Minister of Education, Sagah said the person should not necessarily be someone with a background in education.

However, he added, who to choose is the prerogative of the Prime Minister.

On Nov 27, Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed he has met with the unity government’s component party leaders and Cabinet formation is underway. — DayakDaily
