KUCHING, Aug 6: A group of 16 Sarawakian students of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang are returning to Kuching today.

Sarawak Volunteers in a Facebook post today said this group of students were scheduled to board flight MH2536 from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 2.05pm.

“Although still in grief after the loss of an officer due to the Covid-19 pandemic recently, the Rumah Sarawak and Sarawak Volunteers team in Kuala Lumpur continued to go down on the ground to help Sarawakians, especially students in the peninsula, apart from Sabah and Labuan.

“Last night (Aug 5), the Rumah Sarawak and Sarawak Volunteers team led by Awang Supian Awang Daud, coordinated the arrival of 16 Sarawak students from USM Penang, who arrived at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, at 7.30pm,” it said.

The statement went on to disclose that the food and transportation provided for the students were the contribution of Senior Minister of Works Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, who is also Sarawak Volunteers patron.

On Aug 2 and 4, Sarawak Volunteers and Rumah Sarawak Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Sandakan Polytechnic and Malaysia Airlines brought home a total of 124 Sarawakian students stranded in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

“This is part of the Sarawak government’s ongoing commitment to help Sarawakians in need, especially those stranded outside the State,” it added. – DayakDaily
