Sarawak, US to forge strategic partnership to accelerate clean energy transition

KUCHING, Aug 5: Sarawak and the United States of America (US) are forging a strategic partnership to accelerate clean energy transition.

Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESty) in a statement today said its Minister Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni received a courtesy visit from a US Department of Energy delegation at his office recently.

The meeting focused on expanding collaboration through US government technical assistance, joint research initiatives, and industry partnerships.

The key areas of focus include carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), fossil energy, green hydrogen, methane reduction and critical minerals.

“This partnership is crucial for Sarawak’s transition to a low-carbon economy,” said Hazland.

“We are excited to work closely with the US to explore innovative solutions and develop a sustainable energy future for our state.”

Also present were US Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management assistant secretary Brad Crabtree; Economic Officer of US Embassy Kuala Lumpur, Cameron Millard; Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management senior international advisor Adam Wong; and Commercial Specialist in the US Embassy Kuala Lumpur, Mohan Gurusamy. — DayakDaily
