KUCHING, June 17: Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg joined over 5,000 Muslims to perform Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Jamek here in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha today.
The prayers were led by the Grand Imam of Sarawak, Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.
Together with other State leaders, they also participated in a mass takbir raya event.
After the sermon, the guests-of-honour posed for a group photo in the front hall of Masjid Jamek before moving to Dewan Hikmah to attend the Sarawak Islamic Council’s Aidiladha Thanksgiving Ceremony.
During the ceremony, Wan Junaidi and Abang Johari also observed the ‘ibadah korban’ (Islamic ritual sacrifice), before participating in the cutting of sacrificial meat.
For the record, a total of 1,240 cows were sacrificed to be distributed to asnaf groups throughout Sarawak in conjunction with this year’s Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration. — DayakDaily
