KUCHING, Dec 24: Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has backed up the Sarawak government’s decision to retain assessment examinations for Primary 6, Form 3, and Form 5 students.
He said the pursuit of knowledge is acknowledged as a significant challenge for students, with each stage of education marked by tests and examinations that serve as critical benchmarks for their achievements.
“Although the pressure of examinations may feel burdensome to the children, it actually trains them to face greater challenges in the future. If managed well, this pressure becomes part of the process of building a strong and competitive character.
“In this regard, I believe the State government’s decision to maintain the importance of examinations at certain levels is appropriate and justified. It aims to prepare the younger generation to be better equipped and capable of facing the more challenging demands of adult life.
“We do not wish to produce a society that is weak or non-competitive in the future,” he said in his Christmas message today.
He further called upon parents, teachers, and the community to continue providing full support to children in their learning journey.
“With a strong educational foundation, we can produce a generation that is more excellent, self-reliant, and capable of advancing Sarawak toward greater progress and prosperity,” he added.
In conjunction with the Christmas festive season, Wan Junaidi reminded everyone travelling back to their hometowns to always prioritise road safety.
He also urged commercial vehicle drivers, such as lorry and bus operators, to adhere to traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving.
“Respect other road users and refrain from rushing to meet deadlines. Shared safety should always be our top priority,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
