KUCHING, Sept 5: Sarawak’s Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, is urging the Federal government to approve direct inter-border bus services between Sarawak and Kalimantan, eliminating the need for passengers to switch buses at the border.

Currently, passengers traveling between Kuching and Singkawang must disembark at the border and walk across before transferring to another bus, a process Lee described as inconvenient.

“I hope approval can be granted by our Malaysian Federal Government for buses from Kuching to go directly to Singkawang and vice versa, similar to the arrangement for the Pontianak-Kuching route,” Lee said in a press statement today.

He noted that the matter was raised earlier this year with Federal Transport Minister Anthony Loke during a meeting in Putrajaya.

Lee also mentioned that the Indonesian government has already approved the route, with Indonesia’s Consul General in Kuching, Raden Sigit Witjaksono, confirming that they are only waiting for approval from the Malaysian government. — DayakDaily
