BINTULU, June 11: Sarawak will set up the Sovereign Wealth Future Fund next year, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said it is the aspiration of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government that if Sarawak is in a good financial position, it will give free tertiary education to all Sarawakians through the sovereign fund.
“We are grateful to God that Sarawak’s revenue has increased. In 2022, our revenue almost reached RM12 billion. For the first four months this year, we have recorded RM5 billion.
“Thus, we will not spend all our money (because) we must also save our money.
“That is why we will set up the sovereign fund (and) InsyaAllah, we will start next year for our children,” he said when officiating Progressive Democratic Party’s (PDP) Triennial General Assembly (TGA) held at Dinner World Restaurant here today.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Abang Johari hopes that PDP, under the leadership of its president Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, would continue to be with the government in developing Sarawak.
“I see that the Assembly has gone smoothly, and they have formed a committee that I believe could adopt themselves with political changes.
“Sarawak’s politics is more towards a platform to develop the State, the country and its people,” he added.
Also present were Tiong, GPS secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi; PDP deputy president Dato Henry Harry Jinep, senior vice presidents Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil and Rolland Duat Jubin; and secretary-general Dato Anyi Ngau. — DayakDaily
