Sarawak to see RM36 mln RTM upgrades with Bintulu Complex, staff quarters by 2027

BINTULU, March 6: Three major development projects under the Malaysian Broadcasting Department (RTM) in Sarawak, including the construction of the RTM Bintulu Complex and staff quarters in Sri Aman and Sibu, worth a total of RM36.62 million, are set for completion by August 2027.

The projects were formally launched today when Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching officiated the handover ceremony of the Letters of Acceptance (LOA) to the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak as the executing agency.

According to a statement posted on JKR Sarawak social media, the RTM Bintulu Complex, valued at RM17.77 million, will feature an office block, technical block, mechanical and electrical block, a guardhouse, and external works including furniture provision.

Meanwhile, the staff quarters projects in Sri Aman (RM9.98 million) and Sibu (RM8.87 million) involve the construction of Class F and Class G residential units with supporting facilities, including mechanical, electrical, and external works.

“All these projects are crucial in enhancing public broadcasting facilities in Sarawak while also improving the welfare of RTM staff, ensuring they can deliver information effectively to the community,” Teo said in her speech.

She expressed hope that the projects would proceed smoothly and be completed within the stipulated timeframe without delays.

Representing the JKR Sarawak director, Hajah Sharifah Liz Farawati Wan Omar, deputy director of the Building Sector and JKR experts reaffirmed the department’s commitment to executing the projects efficiently, with quality, and in line with the schedule.

The projects are expected not only to strengthen RTM’s public service infrastructure in Sarawak but also to contribute to a more effective dissemination of information across the State. — DayakDaily
