KUCHING, Dec 12: Sarawak is set to revise its initial plan for the proposed industrial park, introducing a fresh concept focused on future-oriented industries and positioning the State as a competitive hub for foreign investment in the ASEAN region.
The new plan, according to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, marks a departure from the initial blueprint developed before his recent official working visit to Suzhou, China.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Abang Johari explained that insights gained during the trip will help refine the industrial park concept to align with the Post-Covid Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and the emerging needs of the global economy, particularly industries increasingly recognised as the drivers of the future.
“Upon my return, I will convene a special meeting to discuss this matter,” he told a press conference following his visit to the GCL Group Headquarters today.
The Premier was accompanied by Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy Berhad and PETROS) Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo, PETROS Group chief executive officer Dato Janin Girie, and other delegates.
Highlighting Sarawak’s ambitions, he noted that the State’s development strategies must be recalibrated to keep pace with the shifting economic landscape, especially after witnessing technological and industrial advancements first-hand.
“Our goal is to establish Sarawak as the star of ASEAN, particularly as we strengthen connections with fellow member countries.
“We will also diversify our economic activities by harnessing clean and renewable energy as our primary resource, enabling the production of modern and competitive products derived from these energy sources,” he added. — DayakDaily
