Sarawak to play key role in Msia-Indonesia-Brunei border delineation

KUCHING, April 9: Sarawak will continue to play a pivotal role in the border-delineation process with Indonesia and Brunei, ensuring that the State’s strategic interests are always protected.

This was highlighted during a courtesy visit by the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, to the Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi, at Astana Negeri Sarawak today.

During the meeting, the ministry assured that the Sarawak government would remain fully involved in all aspects of the border-delineation process.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), discussions also covered the return of undeveloped federal lands to Sarawak, reinforcing the State’s rights and interests.

The two sides exchanged views on the planned devolution of powers over scheduled waste management under the Environmental Quality Act, which is in the process of being handed to the Sarawak government.

Wan Junaidi also shared insights from his previous tenure as Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, while touching on matters related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

At the conclusion of the visit, Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, expressed their appreciation to Joseph for the ongoing close cooperation between Sarawak and the federal government.

Also present were the secretary-general of the Ministry Datuk Wira Anis Rizana Mohamad Zainudin, Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia director-general Dato Lsr Hazri Hasan, legal advisor Dr Salahudin Dato Hidayat Shariff, and secretary of the Land, Survey, and Geospatial Division Datuk Muhammad Yasir Yahya. — DayakDaily
