KUCHING, Oct 12: Sarawak government will introduce a Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme next year which will provide cash assistance up to RM10,000 to B40 and M40 home buyers for payment of housing deposit.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the new scheme will be managed by Mutiara Mortgage and Credit Sdn Bhd (Mutiara).
“This assistance is applicable to affordable housing projects sanctioned by the State Government.
“A sum of RM10 million will be allocated in Sarawak Budget 2022 that will benefit about 1,200 home buyers,” he said in his Sarawak Budget 2022 statement today after a meeting with Sarawak lawmakers on Sarawak Budget 2022 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching today.
The chief minister also said his administration will continue to intensify efforts to provide affordable housing to the people, address end-financing problems among the low-income group and alleviate cost pressure in the housing market.
He mentioned that among the projects and initiatives that will continue to be implemented in 2022 are the construction of affordable housing, extension of village resettlement scheme, and urban renewal projects throughout the State with an allocation of RM189 million.
The State government, he said, also provides an allocation of RM80 million for Sarawak Poor Housing Improvement Programme (PPRMS), RM50 million to rebuild and repair dilapidated longhouses and RM48 million for Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme that provides rental assistance of RM200 per month for up to 36 months or 3 years.
