KUCHING, July 3: Sarawak will set up the State Unity Action Committee (JKTPN) to serve as a platform for the discussion of unity issues and implementation of programmes promoting unity in the state.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, who will chair the JKTPN, stressed the importance of unity, solidarity, harmony and respect especially among the people of Sarawak with a diversity in race, religion and culture.

Today she met with National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) representative Rose Jonathan Garau to discuss the implementation of the JKTPN.

“One of the objectives of this meeting is to discuss the selection of committee members especially from NGOs (non-government organisations), private sectors and individuals who are experienced in unity issues in Sarawak.

ā€œSarawak has always been called the model state for unity but we should not be complacent about this statement,ā€ she told a press conference after the closed door meeting at her office at Bangunan Baitulmakmur here today.

She added the committee serves as a platform for the discussion of unity issues regarding different races and religions, planning and implementation of programmes and activities promoting unity in Sarawak.

Fatimah noted that unity has to be cultivated and sown into the people of Sarawak since childhood as it is a basic foundation for the development of any state or country. ā€”DayakDaily
