KUCHING, Aug 14: Sarawak is building an Islamic International School that will open its doors in 2027 to provide quality education for students from minority Muslim countries across Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the initiative is part of the State government’s major effort to widen access to quality education for students from member countries of the Religious International Students Exchange Program (RISEP).
“Our Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) has been informed of the request to receive students from minority Muslim countries such as Phnom Penh to study in Sarawak, and he welcomed this initiative,” he told reporters after a courtesy call at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi here today, as reported by TVS.
The school is designated as an international institution as it will admit students from RISEP member countries, which include nations with minority Muslim populations in Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific islands.
“Therefore, students from these countries will be invited to study at this international school,” he added.
Dr Abdul Rahman stressed that the school will not only serve as a key education hub for Sarawakian students but will also become a primary destination for students from countries with limited access to quality Islamic education.
He added that this is a significant step towards strengthening educational ties between Sarawak and minority Muslim nations. — DayakDaily
