SERIAN, Aug 6: Sarawak will choose her own way of giving eKasih assistance, says Federal Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Dato Sri Nancy Shukri.
She said this was because there were still many eKasih recipients, despite Sarawak being ranked as a high income society.
“About a plan (to review the e-kasih system), we heard about it, but we in Sarawak will choose our own way because what happen elsewhere does not reflect what is happening in Sarawak,” she told reporters after officiating at the Wanita Bangkit@KPWKM programme at Siburan Community Hall, here today.
Nancy explained that eKasih, which is a platform for eligible individuals to receive various forms of government assistance comes under the purview of Ministry of Economy.
She explained that her ministry, as the implementing body only received data, applications and the criteria from Ministry of Economy.
On today’s programme, she said that some 500 women from the Puncak Borneo constituency received RM500 in assistance each, which will be credited to their bank account.
According to her, a total of 4,300 women have benefited from the programme to help with their businesses, adding that the coming programme will be held in Limbang.
She pointed out the recipients will be constantly monitored.
She also said that the government has spent more than RM2 million for the programme in the country.
Present among others was Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil. — DayakDaily
