KUCHING, March 30: Sarawak has achieved remarkable economic growth over the past year, with its growth projected to range between five to six per cent, thanks to the well-planned strategies of the GPS government.
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg highlighted that these meticulously crafted strategies, guided by the Post-Covid 19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), will continue to benefit Sarawak and its people well beyond 2030.
“I am confident and believe that Sarawak is capable of demonstrating good growth because the GPS government has meticulously planned the economic trajectory of this State through the PCDS 2030, which is based on three pillars: economic prosperity, social inclusiveness, and environmental sustainability.
“I am also very confident that our vision to make Sarawak an economic powerhouse in this country, even in the Asian region, is on the right track with significant investments in infrastructure, digital economy, technological innovation, green economy, talent development and education, major asset acquisitions, and the development of strategic assets.
“These investments will drive Sarawak’s economy to achieve the status of a developed and high-income region by 2030,” he said in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri greetings today.
He highlighted that various infrastructure projects are actively being carried out to empower the economy, particularly the construction of roads and bridges essential for economic expansion.
“Out of the 16 bridges currently under construction, nine bridges are expected to be completed this year, which will certainly enhance the connectivity system in the state.
“These bridges are being constructed simultaneously at a total cost of RM5.90 billion, funded by the Sarawak government. This is the commitment of the GPS Government to upgrade the road transportation system in Sarawak to drive economic growth and benefit the people,” Abang Johari said.
He further highlighted that Sarawak’s future prosperity will be reinforced by strategic assets that the government has acquired for the benefit of its people.
Sarawak has recently successfully acquired various major and strategic assets such as Bakun Hydro, Bintulu Port, Affin Bank, and MASWings.
The newly acquired MASWings, rebranded as AirBorneo, will also unlock economic opportunities while enhancing air connectivity in Sarawak.
Moving forward, the GPS government will also develop two strategic assets, namely the Deep Sea Port and a new International Airport in Tanjung Embang, Kuching with an investment of RM100 billion.
“I am confident that the development of all these assets will have a significant impact on efforts to create an ‘ecosystem’ that is highly attractive for both domestic and foreign investments,” Abang Johari said.
“The long-term economic planning of Sarawak will not stop in 2030 but will continue beyond 2035 and into 2050. I am very confident that with the maturity of all the major assets currently in place, Sarawak will emerge as an economic powerhouse in the Asian region, benefiting future generations, Insyallah,” he added. – DayakDaily
