KUCHING, Nov 24: Sarawak will fast-track digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and financial inclusion in 2026, with RM33 million allocated under the State Budget to modernise e-services, expand artificial intelligence (AI) applications, and enhance secure digital payments.

The Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre (SAIC), launched in 2025, will receive RM5 million next year to advance AI across healthcare, agriculture, education, and manufacturing.

“By fostering public-private partnerships and collaborating with local and international partners, the Centre (SAIC) aims to boost productivity and create high-value jobs, driving Sarawak toward a smart, innovation-led economy,” said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg when tabling of the Sarawak Budget 2026 at the Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.

Meanwhile, Sarawak’s S Pay Global platform will expand further, with RM28 million earmarked in 2026 for its continued growth. The platform currently serves 1.6 million users and 95,000 merchants, facilitating over RM5.5 billion in transactions since its launch.

“Moving forward, it will evolve into a comprehensive digital banking platform, focused on serving Anak Sarawak, empowering them to save, transact, and invest seamlessly, anytime and anywhere,” he said.

In the same speech, Abang Johari highlighted the launch of SarawakPass, powered by SarawakID at IDECS 2025, as a major milestone.

The platform provides a unified and secure digital identity, connecting citizens and businesses seamlessly to government and private sector services.

Under the 13th Malaysia Plan, the rollout of digital services in land management, social services, and business facilitation will accelerate through platforms such as eZone and the Integrated Social Platform, improving efficiency, accuracy, and inclusivity to ensure assistance reaches those who need it most.

“Cybersecurity is a top priority. The State Cybersecurity Strategy and Roadmap 2030 will safeguard digital infrastructure and citizens’ data, coordinated by a dedicated entity across government and industry,” he said.

To Abang Johari, Data governance will be strengthened through the Sarawak Data Governance Framework and Roadmap, turning data into a strategic asset to improve decision-making, service delivery, and economic value while maintaining strict privacy standards.  — DayakDaily
