KUCHING, July 29: Sarawak is targeting at least 44 gold medals in the 2022 Sukma Games.

According to Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the target is based on the evaluation report on the performance and achievements shown by the athletes throughout the tournament or training records participated before.

“Our target is 44 gold medals, but I believe we can exceed that number,” he told reporters during a press conference held after the launching ceremony of ‘detik 50 hari menjelang Sukma ke-20’ held at Waterfront Kuching, today.

On the same note, Abdul Karim pointed out that Sarawak can also become the overall champion if they are able to reach the target medals set during the previous Sukma Games (2019).

He said the total (medals) must be at least 55 or 56 medals.

“Certainly, our target is to get as many medals as possible to become overall champions and we believe with the performance shown by our players, we can go in that direction,” he added. — DayakDaily
