KUCHING, Sept 22: Sarawak has set a target of 64 gold medals for the Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) 2022 in Kuala Lumpur this November.

Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the target is based on the participation of the Sarawak Para team in 10 events, namely athletics (26 gold medals), swimming (18), badminton (2), table tennis (2), tenpin bowling (4), boccia (two), lawn bowl (2), chess (2) and powerlifting (6).

“We also want to retain our overall champion title for the 14th time,” she said during an event to start the 40-day countdown to Para Sukma 2022 held at a local hotel, here today.

Fatimah noted, a total of 168 para athletes will take part in the event this year together with 84 team officers, 35 secretaries, 25 medical personnel and 10 media representatives from Sarawak.

According to her, all of the athletes and officials will depart for Kuala Lumpur on Oct 30.

“For this time, we have also appointed Deputy Minister for KPWK Mohammad Radzi Sitam to be our Sarawak Para Sukma Chef-de-Mission,” she added. — DayakDaily
