KUCHING, Oct 21: The Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) is targeting 1,410 affordable housing units under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), with an estimated construction cost of RM524.9 million and RM213.35 million approved under Budget 2027 for the projects.
Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said the Sarawak government would bear 50 per cent of the installation costs for solar energy systems to be fitted in 157 of the housing units.
“To date, 402 housing units are under active construction and are expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2027.
“Of these, 157 units will be equipped with solar energy systems, with installation costs amounting to RM4.553 million,” he said when delivering his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.
Awang Tengah said the Sarawak government, through LCDA, spends between RM350,000 and RM435,000 to provide each housing unit under the Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) and Resettlement Scheme (SPS), but sells each unit for only RM150,000.
“With the land premium set at just RM2,500 per lot and houses priced at RM150,000 equipped with solar energy systems, where else in Malaysia can we find such a policy? I believe nowhere else, except in Sarawak,” he said.
He said the initiative reflected the benefits extended to the people under the GPS-led Sarawak government, led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The initiative, he added, was not merely about building houses, but also about expanding homeownership opportunities, increasing property values for lot owners and, in turn, improving their standard of living. — DayakDaily
