KUCHING, Dec 12: Sarawak sees significant potential in collaborating with Jiangsu on waste management, given the region’s advanced expertise in leveraging modern technology to transform waste into valuable resources.
In a TVS news, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg highlighted that Sarawak recently enacted legislation to strengthen waste management efforts.
“Jiangsu excels in waste management using modern technology. As I always say, don’t let waste go to waste but create value from it,” he remarked.
He made the comments during a press conference following the signing of the Kuching Low-Carbon Hub Framework Agreement and Investors Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) at the CJI Headquarters in Nanjing, China, on Thursday (Dec 11).
Abang Johari noted that Sarawak and Jiangsu share a strong platform for expanding strategic cooperation, particularly in training programmes and expertise sharing.
“Jiangsu is among China’s most developed regions, exemplified by the success of the Suzhou Industrial Park, developed in partnership with Singapore,” he said.
The Premier added that the collaboration between Jiangsu and Sarawak carries unique advantages and distinct value.
“With this understanding between the Jiangsu government and Sarawak, I believe it will accelerate our plans leading up to 2030.
“It could even extend beyond 2030, which is crucial for our younger generation. This is precisely why Sarawak’s strategy has been carefully crafted,” he explained.
He emphasised that Sarawak’s development strategy is designed to prepare young people to become key players in the transition to a low-carbon and green economy. — DayakDaily
