KUCHING, July 5: Sarawak taekwondo athlete Randy Owen Augustine Linggi has earned a well-deserved spot on the national taekwondo team.
Sarawak Taekwondo Association announced that the 18-year-old will commence full-time centralised training in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur this weekend, joining forces with Sarawakian national team players Nurul Hidayah Abdul Karim and Nurul Humaira Abdul Karim.
Nurul Hidayah and Nurul Humaira have consistently displayed remarkable skills and exceptional performances in various prestigious competitions, including the Asean Championship, Southeast Asia (SEA) Games, and other global events, dating back to 2018.
Their exceptional achievements include clinching two remarkable gold medals for the nation in May during the 32nd SEA Games 2023 held in Cambodia.
Association president Azizul Annuar Adenan highlighted Randy’s outstanding talent in the poomsae event, where he has achieved both national and state gold medals, since 2020.
“He did us proud in various global poomsae tournaments and had successfully contributed a gold medal for Sarawak and Malaysia.
“There are good facilities in Bukit Jalil and with a good support system in terms of coaching and other services to prepare our national team players, I believe we will be able to push every selected players’ limits and value to the whole setup,” he said in a statement today.
With a strong systematic programme in place, Azizul who is also the Tanjong Datu assemblyman, is confident that this approach will facilitate the development of top-notch athletes while fostering synergy among young players who aspire to prove themselves and gain valuable experience from their more seasoned teammates. — DayakDaily
