KUCHING, April 2: Negotiations to reclaim Sarawak’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) remain a priority and not mere rhetoric, with significant progress made over the past four months despite some minor setbacks.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali highlighted this recently during her 2025 Hari Raya Open House event, emphasising that the fight to restore Sarawak’s rights has been challenging and requires full commitment from all parties involved.
“We have made significant progress over the past four months, but there are still issues that need to be reviewed and discussed in detail.
“This is a long journey, and these negotiations cannot be rushed as they involve critical aspects for Sarawak.
“We will continue discussions with the Federal Government and all relevant stakeholders,” she was quoted as saying in a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
“We have achieved many things in these four months, but there are still issues that need to be reviewed and thoroughly discussed.
“This is a long journey. These negotiations cannot be done in a hurry because they involve various important aspects for Sarawak.
“We will continue discussions with the Federal Government and all stakeholders,” she added.
Meanwhile, Sharifah Hasidah also highlighted the strong spirit of unity in Sarawak shown especially during festive seasons like Hari Raya when people of all walks of life, religions, and races gather to celebrate.
“Alhamdulillah, the celebration is very lively. The strong turnout reflects how much we value close bonds among one another.
“We saw the same spirit at the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s open house at BCCK, which was filled with people of various races and religions. It clearly shows the extraordinary spirit of togetherness we have in Sarawak.
“This is our uniqueness in Sarawak. Aidilfitri is not just celebrated by one community, but embraced by all, like one big family,” she added. – DayakDaily
