KUCHING, Oct 26: Sarawak’s young songstress Taylor Louise Fong has added another major international accolade to her growing list of achievements after winning First Prize and the Exceptional Young Talent Special Prize at the 2025 International Music Competition Paris Grand Prize Virtuoso.
Her latest win has also earned her a prestigious invitation to take the stage at The Studio of the Opéra Bastille in Paris this December 12, where she will make her debut at one of Europe’s most distinguished opera venues.
Taylor described the win in Paris as both overwhelming and meaningful.
“I really don’t know how to put it in words, but I want to thank my Lord first before everything else. I am just so grateful and praying everything goes smoothly for my Paris performance,” she said in a recent statement.
Earlier this year, the 11-year-old proudly represented Malaysia on two prestigious global platforms, the ASAF Winner Showcase at the Royal College of Music Britten Theatre in London and the Sanremo Junior World Finals in Italy, where she ranked among the Top 5.
Among her earlier international victories are a Gold and Division Champion title at the World Championship of Performing Arts in Los Angeles and Double Champion at the Asia Students Arts Festival in Singapore and Hong Kong.
Taylor began her musical journey through street busking and local open mic sessions in Kuching before receiving formal training under award-winning choral conductor Sabrina Tnay. Her steady rise has made her an inspiration to many young Sarawakians who aspire to pursue the performing arts.
In August, she captured public attention for her role as Rayna in Dreamweaver, a musical theatre production by Tanoti staged at The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) in Kuala Lumpur. She was the only child performer in a cast of adults.
Taylor’s achievements continue to place Sarawak and Malaysia on the global performing arts map and demonstrate that world-class talent can grow from local roots. — DayakDaily
