KUCHING, July 30: Sarawak will be sending 700 athletes to Perak for the Malaysia Games (Sukma), beginning Sept 6.
In view of the huge team, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who will be leading the delegation, attended a briefing conducted by Musa Dun, chief executive officer of Perak Sukma secretariat, recently.
Snowdan was accompanied by 12 state officials.
“The purpose for us to attend the briefing is to familiarise ourselves with the latest development as well as to conduct working visits to all the sites and venues where the events are to be held.
“We need to gauge the challenges such as transportation, travelling time, accommodation, sports science facilities like physiotherapy and medical equipment as well as where to locate our main secretariat and logistics before the actual game is held in view of our big team plus officials and coaches,” said Snowdan in a statement today.
Sukma is the biggest sporting event participated by all states in Malaysia and Brunei. It is held once every two years.
Snowdan said they were told a total of 39 venues would be used, and these venues are scattered throughout the 12 districts in Perak.
The opening ceremony is scheduled on Sept 11, to be graced by Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak. — DayakDaily
