Sarawak sees threefold jump in Covid-19 cases with 1,248 as Kuching tops the list at 430 cases

KUCHING, March 1: The daily Covid-19 case statistics in Sarawak have increased threefold in a single day, with 1,248 cases logged in 35 districts today compared to 442 cases in 22 districts yesterday.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its latest update on the Covid-19 situation in the State, reported that Kuching topped the list with 430 cases, followed by Miri (238) and Sibu (180).

Eleven districts that saw double digit cases are Bintulu (82), Serian (47), Samarahan (45), Sarikei (39), Kapit (21), Bau (18), Sri Aman (17), Matu (16), Lawas (15), Mukah (11) and Saratok (10).


There remaining 21 districts that registered single digit cases are Lundu and Limbang (9 cases each); Daro and Subis (8 each); Julau (7), Betong (6), Meradong and Simunjan (5 each); Kanowit (4); Belaga and Tebedu (3 each); Song and Pusa (2 each); while Dalat, Pakan, Lubok Antu, Tatau, Telang Usan, Sebauh, Bukit Mabong and Asajaya have one case each.

The latest figures have pushed the State’s overall Covid-19 tally to 261,060 cases, while the death toll remains unchanged at 1,626.

Of the new cases, there are 18 cases with severe conditions – 12 under Category 3 with pneumonia, two under Category 4 with pneumonia and requiring oxygen, and four under Category 5 with pneumonia and requiring ventilator support.

There are 667 cases under Category 2 with mild symptoms and 563 cases under Category 1 with no symptoms.

Currently, there are three active clusters in Sarawak which did not register an increase in cases.

Meanwhile, the police have issued 11 compounds in Kuching in the past 24 hours for various violations of standard operating procedures (SOP).
