KUCHING, April 10: Efforts to recover federal government land in Sarawak are progressing steadily, with 53 land lots already returned to the State as part of an ongoing initiative to streamline land management and support development planning.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, said the recovery exercise has identified more than 200 federal land lots in Sarawak, with the process being actively intensified to facilitate their return to the Sarawak government.

He said an additional 11 land lots have recently been approved for handover to the Sarawak government.

“This effort will continue, and we will further strengthen the land recovery process so that the Sarawak government can plan development according to the needs of the identified areas,” he was quoted by TVS as saying at a press conference after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Satria Pertiwi Complex here yesterday (April 9).

On another development, Arthur said the appointment of community rangers in Sarawak has received strong support from his ministry.

He said Sarawak is among the states receiving one of the largest allocations this year, with RM11.6 million approved to appoint more than 325 community rangers.

The appointment ceremony for the community rangers will be held this Saturday, April 11, at the Kampung Semaba Hall here.

He also noted that boundary demarcation work involving Brunei and Indonesia is currently ongoing with Sarawak’s participation, describing it as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with neighbouring countries while ensuring national borders are properly managed. — DayakDaily
