Sarawak scouts association to build new facility to attract participation from younger generation

KUCHING, April 17: Scouts Association of Malaysia Sarawak plans to build a new facility next to its headquarters at Jalan Batu Lintang to attract participation from the younger generation.

Sarawak Scouts Council president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom said they planned to build a new recreational centre to organise activities for the youth in order to attract their interest to know more about the scouts.

“Now that the area has been cleared out, next, anything can spring up from that,” he told a press conference held at Scouts Association of Malaysia Sarawak in Jalan Batu Lintang, yesterday.

Asked when the construction project will start, Mawan added, it will be within six months.

Earlier on, Mawan presented cash assistance to 24 recipients comprising members of the Scouts Association who are ill, family members of scouts who are categorised as disabled, and less fortunate members of the community.

Mawan said this the first time this charitable gesture was organised Scouts Association of Malaysia Sarawak in conjunction with Ramadan month.

He added that Scouts Association of Malaysia Sarawak branch also distributed 1,000 containers of ‘bubur lambuk’ to police personnel at Central Police Station, Darul Ittihaad Mosque in Kenyalang, Darul Barakah Mosque in BDC, Bandaraya Mosque, Anjung Kasih Kuching, SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor hostels, Institute Of Teachers’ Education (ITE) Batu Lintang Campus and Ministry of Health (MOH) Health College in Puncak Borneo. — DayakDaily
