KUCHING, July 31: The federal government will place special focus on positioning Sarawak and Sabah as the nation’s sustainable energy hubs, competitive at regional level.
Tabling the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in the Dewan Rakyat today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasised that the move is part of the government’s commitment to driving equitable development across all regions, with strategic initiatives tailored to unlock the full potential of each state.
“For Sarawak, the development of the Sarawak Hydrogen Hub will spearhead the clean energy transition, while Sabah will benefit from the Energy Supply Assurance initiative to strengthen energy security and infrastructure in the regions.
“These efforts are not only about improving infrastructure but also about catalysing high-impact investments, generating high-value employment, and fostering clean technology advancements for the benefit of the people of Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.
Meanwhile, Anwar announced that development on the East Coast, particularly in Kelantan, Pahang, and Terengganu, will be driven through the creation of an integrated and competitive national food production hub.
This initiative aims to unlock new economic opportunities, particularly for rural communities.
To further enhance grassroots development, the government will continue the Madani Adopted Village and Adopted School Initiatives as a whole-of-government approach involving ministries, agencies, corporates, private firms, and local communities.
“The government targets the implementation of 200 Madani Adopted Villages and 1,000 Madani Adopted Schools, based on the specific needs and aspirations of local communities,” Anwar said.
The 13MP, which charts Malaysia’s development roadmap from 2026 to 2030, is built upon the pillars of inclusivity, sustainability, innovation, and resilience, aiming to future-proof the nation amid global challenges. — DayakDaily
