Sarawak reports zero new clusters for 2nd consecutive day, but 6 active clusters add 19 more cases


KUCHING, July 28: Sarawak recorded no new Covid-19 clusters for the second consecutive day but six active clusters added 19 more cases to the daily case count of 464 today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that the Mongkos 2 Cluster in Tebedu picked up eight cases, bringing the cluster’s total to 185 with only nine active cases still receiving treatment and being isolated.

The Mongkos 2 Cluster, which involves Kampung Mongkos, was re-declared on June 19 five days after the first cluster ended following occurrence of reinfections with 22 positive cases detected.


Infections were reported to have spread among family members and social contacts due to social movement.

The other five clusters with new cases are Jalan Tatau-Selangau in Tatau (6 cases), Abu Bengang Cluster in Saratok (2 cases), and Jalan Demak Laut in Kuching, Balai Ringin Melayu in Serian and Sungai Sebatu in Meradong which added one case each.

SDMC also declared the end of three clusters namely Jalan Coastal Bintulu-Miri Cluster in Bintulu, Kampung Sinar Budi Baru Cluster in Kuching and Balie Pie Cluster in Subis after no new cases were recorded in the past 28 days.

With this, the number of active clusters in Sarawak has decreased to 78. — DayakDaily
