Sarawak reports three Covid-19 deaths including two BID, 813 new cases

KUCHING, March 21: Three Covid-19 fatalities were reported in Sarawak today involving three women aged between 57 and 86, including two brought-in-dead (BID) cases.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the first BID case was reported in Sarikei Hospital involving a 57-year-old woman, while the second case was reported in Samarahan involving an 86-year-woman at the Sarawak Heart Centre.

Another death was reported in Samarahan involving a 71-year-old woman who passed away in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).


All three had comorbidities and passed away on March 19, pushing the cumulative number of Covid-19 fatalities in Sarawak to 1,665.

Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded 813 new Covid-19 cases as Kuching and Miri remain as the districts with the most cases with 277 and 128 cases, respectively.

Twelve districts reported double-digit cases, namely Bintulu (72), Sibu (61), Samarahan (42), Limbang (36), Sarikei (33), Serian (26), Bau (17), Saratok (14), Mukah (13), Tanjung Manis (12) Sri Aman (10), and Dalat (10).

Cases were also reported in Meradong (8), Betong (7), Lawas (6), Asajaya (5), Kabong (4), Tebedu (3), Simunjan (3), Pusa (3), Lundu (3), Marudi (3), Subis (3), Telang Usan (3), Daro (2), Beluru (2), Kanowit (2), Lubok Antu (1), Pakan (1), Kapit (1), Matu (1), and Selangau (1).

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 288,660.

Of the new cases reported, six were under Category 5 (lung infection and require ventilator), two under Category 4 (lung infection and require oxygen supply), 520 under Category 2 (mild symptoms), and 285 under Category 1 (asymptomatic).

Today, six clusters remain active in Sarawak, and no new clusters were reported. — DayakDaily
