Sarawak reports 7 Covid-19 deaths, 4 from Sibu

KUCHING, June 22: Sarawak reported seven Covid-19 fatalities today, raising the State’s death toll to 389.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily updates on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, revealed that four of the deaths took place in Sibu, and the remaining three were each recorded in Meradong, Pakan and Kuching respectively.

Of the four deaths in Sibu, two were elderly males, one elderly female and one middle-aged male. All of them had comorbidities.


The two elderly males, aged 86 and 73, tested positive on May 30 and April 29 respectively, while the 67-year-old woman tested positive on June 14 and the 59-year-old man tested positive on June 20.

As for the death in Meradong, the deceased was an 87-year-old woman who tested positive on June 10. She had comorbidities of hypertension.

A 74-year-old woman who tested positive on June 20 was the sole death recorded in Pakan today. She had comorbidities of hypertension, diabetes and chronic kidney disease.

As for the death in Kuching, the victim was a 71-year-old man who tested positive on June 10. She had comorbidities of hypertension and diabetes.

Meanwhile, Sarawak also recorded 583 recoveries, increasing the total number of patients who have recovered and discharged from hospitals to 50,145 or 82.22 per cent of the total positive cases in the State.

However, there are still 10,318 active cases still receiving treatment and being isolated in hospitals and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) throughout the State. — DayakDaily
