KUCHING, Nov 6: Puteri Dang Balai Yayasan Sarawak 5 was crowned ‘Raja Sungai’ (King of the River) in Sarawak Regatta 2022.
Puteri Dang Balai Yayasan Sarawak Lima rowers beat DBKU Pantai Damai GP Binladen 4 and team Udak in the Raja Sungai 30 Men Paddlers category, to bring home RM20,000 cash and a championship trophy.
During an interview after the prizegiving ceremony, Yayasan Sarawak director Mersal Abang Rosli said he did not expect that his team would repeat the victory which was achieved in 2018, with only 3 months of preparation.
“For next year’s event, a budget has been prepared and they will also be traininig for a three-month period,” he said.
In second place, team DBKU Pantai Damai GP Binladen 4 took home RM10,000 cash and a trophy, while team Udak in third place walked away with RM8,000 and a trophy.
The prize were handed over to the winners by Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also the minister-in-charge of Sarawak Regatta-Kuching Waterfront Festival 2022. — DayakDaily
