Sarawak records lowest Covid-19 infectivity rate (Rt=0.78) in Malaysia

KUCHING, Nov 27: Sarawak has recorded the lowest Covid-19 infectivity rate (Rt) of 0.78 yesterday (Nov 26) among other States in Malaysia.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in stating this, stressed that the Covid-19 infection in Sarawak have shown a significant downward trend over the past few weeks, especially in number of caseloads and deaths.


“The average daily new Covid-19 cases reported in Sarawak for November 2021 (as of Nov 27) was 345 cases per day, and this is a decrease compared to October 2021 with an average of 1,013 new cases per day.

“The number of deaths due to Covid-19 for November 2021 has also decreased to 181 deaths, compared to 497 deaths in October 2021,” it said in a statement today.

In terms of vaccination, SDMC said a total of 90.5 per cent of total eligible population or 75.5 per cent of total Sarawak population were vaccinated with first two doses while 634,684 individuals have gotten their third booster shots.

The committee said the booster dose administration which began Oct 13, 2021 reflected positive effect on local Covid-19 situation which is evident in the downward trend of positive cases, deaths and Rt rate.

“SDMC would like to express its highest appreciation to all the people in Sarawak for cooperating with all agencies involved and always complying with the existing SOPs (standard operating procedures).

“With the recent approval of booster doses to adults aged 18 to 39 by the Ministry of Health (MOH), SDMC hopes that all eligible individuals will come forward to receive the booster dose vaccination when an appointment is given,” said SDMC. — DayakDaily
