KUCHING, June 24: Sarawak has recorded a total of 2.06 million visitors as of May 2024, and the prospect of hitting the 5 million visitors mark is achievable.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated that the figure indicated more visitors were recorded every month from January to May this year compared to the total recorded for the same period in 2023.

“Every month, we saw more arrivals, and we already recorded 2.06 million (in total) in May. Overall, I feel that this year, Sarawak will record the most number of visitors as compared to the highest recorded in 2019, which was 4.6 million.”

He told reporters this before the ‘Dancing Queen Concert—A Tribute to ABBA and Queen’ at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night.

Abdul Karim was optimistic that by September or October this year, Sarawak will hit its targeted 4 million visitors.

“This time, we might even hit 5 million visitors but I know it will be more than 4.6 million. It looks definite, looking at the monthly trend now,” he said.
