Sarawak records 9 new Covid-19 cases, 19 recoveries

KUCHING, May 2: Sarawak confirmed nine new Covid-19 cases and 19 recoveries today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed in a statement today that of the new cases, three were recorded in Bau and two each in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian.

This brought the total number of positive cases in the state to 518 since the first case was detected on March 13.

“Of the new cases, three were linked to the Kuching conference cluster, two to small clusters and four are still under investigation including one involving the healthcare worker cluster.

“As for the recoveries, all the 19 patients have been discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH),” he said.

In addition, Kuching and Samarahan are still under the red zone with 137 and 47 active cases respectively while Miri (3), Bau (4), Asajaya (2), Simunjan (4), Serian (8), Bintulu (10), Sri Aman (0) and Limbang (2) are under the orange zone.

Uggah also informed that Sarawak recorded 172 more person-under-investigation (PUI) cases today while 178 cases are still awaiting laboratory test results.

Sarawak also recorded 494 more Sarawakians returning to the state have been checked in to identified hotels as PUI to undergo compulsory 14-day quarantine, while 146 individuals have completed the procedure and allowed to go home.

Meanwhile, the Movement Control Order (MCO) compliance rate in Sarawak made slight improvement with 97.3 per cent today.

“In the past 24 hours, police arrested 33 people in Sarawak for not adhering to the MCO.

“Since MCO was enforced on March 18, a total of 1,987 arrests have been made and 1,363 have been charged in court,” he said.—DayakDaily
