Sarawak records 640 new daily Covid-19 cases, Kuching tops list again with 101 cases

KUCHING, May 26: Kuching has topped the list once again with the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the State at 110 as Sarawak reported 640 new cases in 31 districts and two fatalities, bringing the tally of positive cases to 43,966 and its death toll to 263.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update report on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, revealed that 346 or 54.06 per cent of the 640 cases were detected in the districts of Kuching, Miri, Sibu and Bukit Mabong.

Apart from Kuching, the 30 districts that recorded an increase in daily infections are Miri (101), Sibu (75) Bukit Mabong (60), Selangau (44), Samarahan (30), Tatau (29), Serian (25), Asajaya (25), Mukah (24), Bintulu (23), Sri Aman and Kapit (21 each), Sebauh (9), Song and Pakan (5 each), Simunjan and Daro (4 each), Lundu, Subis, Lubok Antu and Marudi (3 each), Beluru, Sarikei, Lawas and Pusa (2 each), while Limbang, Tanjung Manis, Tebedu, Kanowit and Meradong has one case each.

Of the 640 new cases, a total of 80 cases were symptomatic while 541 comprised individuals who have moved into quarantine.

In addition, SDMC informed that 448 cases were individuals linked to positive cases while 88 cases were detected from active clusters screenings, 61 cases were from other screenings at healthcare facilities, 38 cases from symptomatic screenings, three overseas import cases involving returnees from Indonesia and two domestic import cases from other states in Malaysia.

Of the two Covid-19 fatalities, one was reported in Bintulu Hospital and the other in Miri Hospital.

The 262nd fatality was case 27,166 involving a 65-year-old man who was referred to the emergency unit of Bintulu Hospital to undergo health screening.

The case started to experience breathing difficulty while undergoing dialysis. His swab test returned positive on May 13 but his health condition deteriorated and subsequently passed away on May 23.

The deceased had comorbidities of diabetes, heart disease and final stage kidney disease.

The 263rd fatality was case 43,664 involving a 71-year-old woman who had received treatment at Miri Hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties.

Two days ago, she started showing symptoms of cough, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue and breathing difficulty. Her swab test returned positive results for the virus on May 25.

However, her health condition deteriorated and she subsequently passed away on May 26. The deceased had comorbidities of heart disease and asthma. — DayakDaily
