Sarawak records 281 new Covid-19 cases and four fatalities

KUCHING, July 8: Sarawak reported 281 new Covid-19 cases and four fatalities today.

Among the fatalities was a 63-year-old man from Miri without comorbidities while the others had history of hypertension.


According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily Covid-19 report, most of the new cases reported today were detected in Kuching.

Kuching registered the highest number of new cases at 57 followed by Sri Aman with 52, Sibu (40), Mukah (18), Bintulu (17), Samarahan (15), Telang Usan (14) and Kapit (11).

There were 19 other districts reporting single-digit gains, comprising Serian (8), Miri (7), Bau (6), Subis (4), Sarikei (4), Meradong (3), Kanowit (3), Bukit Mabong (3), Tatau (3), Lundu (2), Dalat (2), Betong (2), Sebauh (2), Selangau (2), Matu (2), Asajaya (1), Tebedu (1), Pakan (1) and Song (1).

Thirteen districts namely Simunjan, Pusa, Kabong, Lubok Antu, Belaga, Tanjung Manis, Julau, Daro, Marudi, Beluru, Telang Usan, Limbang and Lawas reported zero cases.

Among the 281 new cases were two imported cases consisting of asymptomatic individuals returning from Indonesia.

With this, the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has risen to 67,841.

The four new fatalities raise the State’s Covid-19 death toll to 428 persons.

In the meantime, a total of 9,758 Covid-19 patients are being treated for the coronavirus in various health facilities throughout Sarawak while 426 Covid-19 patients have recovered and been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 57,498 persons or 84.75 per cent of overall Covid-19 cases.

Apart from that, the Covid-19 situation in Matu has improved as the district eased back into Covid-19 yellow zone status from orange after reporting a cumulative 18 local infections over the past 14 days. — DayakDaily
