Sarawak Premier, wife witness launch of Malaysia Craft Exhibition in London

LONDON, May 8: Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang were among dignitaries from Malaysia who witnessed the launch of a Malaysia crafts exhibition held in conjunction with the annual London Craft Week at the Malaysian High Commission here, yesterday.

According to a media release issued by Office of Premier of Sarawak (OPS), Malaysia’s Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah launched the exhibition which will run from May 8 to 14.

Other dignitaries present included the wife of Sarawak’s Head of State, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and his wife Datin Sri Zuraini Abdul Jabbar; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Syed Aman Ghazali; and Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and his wife Datin Amar Baduyah Bujang.

London Craft Week is an annual event organised in the British capital since 2015 involving Commonwealth countries around the world.

Sarawak’s participation in the event along with other participating states was at the invitation of the Raja Permaisuri Agong in the effort to showcase the country’s unique crafts, and Sarawak’s in particular.

The participating bodies from Sarawak include Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) Commercial, Tun Jugah Foundation and Brooke Trust with exhibits featuring traditional crafts such as Songket Sarawak, Keringkam, Pua Kumbu and woven bemban items.

Workshops and demonstrations are also part of the weeklong exhibition. — DayakDaily
